Lamb of God’s Wrath is a conscious departure from the sound and production of their Grammy-nominated Sacrament. They aimed to have Wrath be a more stripped-down sound than its heavily-produced predecessor. Though the guitars certainly are less-distorted and raw tones are found throughout, raw minimalism is far from the result. Breakdowns have crisp, gated guitar and drums, and vocals have production aplenty–the first vocals heard on the album come in “In Your Words” and almost are not recognizable as coming from Randy Blythe. Wrath is a far cry from the days when the band was still called Burn the Priest, but Lamb of God delivers a solid, heavy album.
