CAMERON, La. (AP) — Former President George H. W. Bush says the Bush-Clinton Coastal Recovery Fund has raised about $2.7 million to use toward recovery projects in Louisiana and Texas, two states battered by last year’s Hurricane Ike.
Bush toured Cameron Parish on Tuesday with former Secretary of State James Baker and Gov. Bobby Jindal.
The money in the fund has come from private donations, including a $100,000 check Bush said he received after an NBA basketball game between the Houston Rockets and the New Orleans Hornets on Monday night.
The money for the Ike fund is well short of the $130 million raised for the Bush-Clinton Katrina fund, which was established after Hurricane Katrina made landfall in August 2005.
Ike caused about $27 billion in damages along the Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana coastline when it struck Sept. 13.
