NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Prevention magazine says history and lovely old houses make New Orleans one of the nation’s top 25 cities for walking.
The magazine says its findings are based on a survey made with the American Podiatric Medical Association and Sperling’s BestPlaces, a resource for destination facts.
It chose the cities based on 19 criteria, including population density per square mile, use of mass transit, crime rates, and square miles of local and state parks.
New Orleans is No. 22. The magazine’s Web site says, “It’s one of the oldest cities in the United States, walking tours abound through richly historic neighborhoods.”
San Francisco, where 12 government agencies offer help to walkers, tops the list. Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Chicago round out the top five.
