The University Student Recreation Complex rang with the sound of aluminum bats Thursday night as four teams claimed softball intramural championships.The FFF Flying Goats defeated the URECers, 13-1, to take the co-rec championship. Michael Faucheux, general studies senior, said his team’s female players were the difference in the victory.”The girls picked us up and helped out tremendously,” Faucheux said.The Goats finally donned championship shirts after advancing to the semifinals the past few seasons.Delta Zeta won the women’s title with their defense, shutting out The Miss-Fits, 1-0. Erica Severson, political science freshman, said even though she was confident in her team, she didn’t know how her team would fare against higher competition.”We played really good defense,” Severson said. “It felt great to win.”UREC officials decided to cancel the all-campus men’s championship game. A fraternity team and men’s open team took home championship shirts.Lambda Chi C outscored Phi Delta Theta in the fraternity division, 10-7. “We hit the ball well and played solid defense,” said Christian Rossi, business sophomore. The Purple Monkeys led going in the final inning of the men’s open championship,15-12.But with two outs in the bottom of seventh inning, Hot Ice scored four runs and clinched the win with a walk-off single, 16-15.”It was very intense,” said Matthew Harp, biology senior. “It was great to win a close game.”—-Contact Michael Lambert at [email protected]
