LSU women’s basketball coach Van Chancellor knew the Lady Tigers would have to replace their starting center from this past season — senior Kristen Morris.
But on Friday, Chancellor announced that the team will also have to replace their backup center, rising sophomore Ayana Dunning, who has decided to transfer from the Lady Tigers’ program.
“We never like to see a player leave our program, but we respect Ayana’s decision in doing what’s best for her,” Chancellor said in a news release. “I enjoyed coaching her for one season and she played well after coming off knee surgery last summer. We wish her all the best in her future endeavors in basketball and getting an education.”
Dunning was one of the Lady Tigers’ primary bench contributors last season and averaged five points and four rebounds per game.
Dunning has not yet said where she will transfer, but if she transfers to another Division I school, she will have to sit out all of the 2009-10 season.
