The LSU Alumni Gold track and field meet was aptly titled to say the least.
The Tiger Olympians, consisting of distinguished Tiger alumni, dominated the meet — and rightfully so.
The decorated group included Olympians Richard Thompson, who finished second to Jamaican Usain Bolt in the 100-meter dash in Beijing, and Lolo Jones, who nearly won the women’s 100-meter hurdles in Beijing.
Jones is the defending U.S. Olympic trials champion in the event.
Thompson easily outpaced the field in the men’s 100-meter dash after posting a sizzling 10.15-second time. LSU senior sprinter Trindon Holliday finished second to Thompson with a time of 10.19 seconds.
Jones elected against running Saturday.
Following the Olympians were LSU and Texas A&M in success at the meet, with both capturing titles in multiple events.
LSU sophomore Walter Henning once again bested his own school record, hurling a 235-foot, 11-inch throw. He set the previous mark last weekend at the Sun Angel Classic in Tempe, Ariz.
Holliday shone once again for the No. 6 Tigers, capturing second place in the men’s 100-meter dash and 4×100-meter relay.
After receiving the stick from sophomore Gabriel Mvumvure, Holliday passed three competitors, coming up just short against Texas A&M junior Gerald Phiri.
Phiri finished second to Holliday in the 100-meter dash.
