The No. 8 LSU women’s golf teams heads to the University Club at Cobblestone Park course in Blytheville, S.C., and the No. 17 LSU men’s golf team travels to the Frederica Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Ga., to compete in their respective Southeastern Conference Golf Championships this weekend.LSU women’s golf coach Karen Bahnsen said in a news release her team needs to be patient.”They had a lot of rain here on Tuesday and so the golf course is real soft,” Bahnsen said. “It’s a matter of keeping your head on straight and being patient. It will be a tough course for a lot of players. You’ve got to play smart.”No. 11 sophomore Megan McChrystal, senior Caroline Martens, sophomore Amalie Valle, freshman Tessa Teachman and freshman Jacqueline Headwall round out the list of competitors in the SEC championships for the Lady Tigers.”I like the attitude of the team,” Bahnsen said in a news release. “I don’t think we hit it the greatest in the practice round [Thursday]. But I feel good about them. We’ve got to play real steady and stay in the moment and we’ve certainly been doing that. They are ready and I can tell they are looking forward to the challenge.”The Lady Tigers will face stiff competition. Five of the eleven other SEC teams are ranked in the top-20 by Golfstat performance. Alabama ranks sixth nationally, Auburn ranks seventh, Georgia ranks 14th and Arkansas and Vanderbilt ranked 17th and 18th, respectively.”You’ve got to stay mentally tough,” Bahnsen said. “Everyone is playing the same conditions. It’s a great golf course.”Bahnsen said the 405-yard par 4 third hole and the 150-yard par 3 fourth hole are key for her team.”I think if you get through those holes in good shape you could be on the way to a good round,” Bahnsen said. The Tigers also face a field that features five other teams ranked in the top-20.Sophomores Andrew Loupe, No. 37 John Peterson, Clayton Rotz and freshmen Josh Jones and Sang Yi form the Tigers lineup.—–Contact Amos Morale at [email protected]
