NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Musicians at this year’s Jazz Fest will be doing more than just making music. They will also be learning how to make money.
The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Foundation will host its second annual Sync Up conference during the 2009 Jazz Fest to promote outside revenue streams for struggling local musicians.
People from around the country will hold free panels on how to book shows at international festivals, artist development and alternative ways to raise money for studio time.
Scott Aiges, the foundation’s director of programs, marketing and communication, says New Orleans musicians are getting smarter about how to handle their business but they’re still struggling. He says to really make it, artists can’t just rely on the New Orleans scene.
