Both the LSU men’s and women’s tennis teams have earned postseason berths.
The men’s team will host an NCAA regional and face Rice in its opening match Friday, May 8 at 1 p.m.
LSU will face the winner of Ole Miss and Alcorn State in the second round Saturday, May 9 if they advance.
It is the 25th NCAA tournament berth all-time for LSU. The Tigers have a 27-25 record all time in the tournament, making the semifinals in 1998 and 1999 under coach Jeff Brown.
“To host the No. 2 team in the nation in Ole Miss, highly-ranked Rice and SWAC Champion Alcorn State in the opening rounds is exciting for our team,” Brown said in a news release.
The women’s team will travel to Palo Alto, Calif., to face Long Beach State on Saturday, May 9 in the first round. Stanford is hosting the regional and will play Wichita State in its opening match.
The Lady Tigers would play the second round Sunday, May 10 should they advance.
“We’re really excited to make the tournament again and to have this opportunity. We’re really fired up about going out to Stanford,” said LSU women’s coach Tony Minnis in a news release. “Long Beach is a very good team. We beat them in a very tight match last year. We have to focus on getting momentum back and getting back in the right mindset to compete well against Long Beach.”
