The Environmental Conservation Organization, ECO at LSU, will host the 4th Annual LSU Earth Day celebration tomorrow from noon to 4:30 p.m. on the Parade Ground.
“It’s important [for Earth Day] to be recognized everywhere,” said Jordan Bantuelle, co-president of ECO and biology senior. “It’s to raise awareness about environmental issues. It’s an educational thing. Not enough people know enough about environmental issues.”
The festival will allow students to swap their old stuff, calculate their Carbon Foot Print, learn about fair trade and composting and experience live musical performances from DJ Otto, PhD and Caddywhompus.
“We are sort of the environmental generation because we are the ones who decide what happens with the issues such as climate change,” Bantuelle said. “People can do something.”
The celebration of Earth Day began in 1970 by founder Gaylord Nelson, who was a senator from Wisconsin. According to earthday.net, Nelson proposed the first nationwide environmental protest that became the April 22 Earth Day holiday.—-Contact Mary Walker Baus at [email protected]
