The Women’s Center and the Capital Area Family Violence Intervention Center Battered Women’s Program are partnering up to develop an online volunteer training program on Moodle to increase the number of crisis hotline volunteers.”Moodle enables non-profit organizations like the Battered Women’s Program to increase visibility and support their volunteer efforts with 21st-century technology,” said Katrice Albert, vice provost for Equity, Diversity and Community Outreach in a press release.The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that 23.6 percent of women in the U.S. are victims of domestic violence by a spouse, former spouse, current or former boyfriend, or a dating partner at some time in their lives.Louisiana ranks second in the nation for homicides related to domestic abuse.
