LSU junior outfielder Rachel Mitchell, a 2008 All-Southeastern Conference selection and recent National Fastpitch Coaches Association National Player of the Week, will play in this weekend’s series against No. 13 Tennessee after suffering a minor ankle injury this week.
“She twisted her ankle, but it’s better than we thought,” LSU coach Yvette Girouard said Thursday. “She’ll be alright … hopefully she’ll be fine by Saturday.”
Mitchell saw limited action in Wednesday night’s win against Southern Miss. She was 0-of-3 from the plate with a walk as LSU’s designated hitter. She did not take her usual spot in the Tigers’ outfield.
“She looked alright,” Girouard said. “We didn’t play her defensively, but she seemed to run alright.”
LSU starts play against the Volunteers on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
