BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Athletic Director Joe Alleva says LSU athletics have remained strong through the recession, but there are concerns about revenue declining in the future.
Alleva, who was hired by LSU a year ago, says advertising is drying up.
LSU’s main Baton Rouge campus is facing possibly $34 million in cuts from the state.
Still, Alleva said on Tuesday that the athletics revenue stream is strong enough — at least for now — to pay off the bond indebtedness on projects, such as the new Alex Box Stadium for the baseball team.
Alleva said LSU is just one of six college athletics programs nationally that is financially self-sufficient, which means it gets no aid from the state or student fees.
