The LSU men’s tennis team lost to No. 2 Ole Miss, 4-2, in the second round of the NCAA tournament Saturday at W.T. “Dub” Robinson Stadium.
It is the third time this season LSU has lost to Ole Miss.
Ole Miss secured the doubles point for a 1-0 lead. Ole Miss freshman Devin Britton and sophomore Tucker Vorster beat LSU sophomores Sebastian Carlsson and Julien Gauthier, 8-4, in the first doubles match to finish.
LSU senior Michael Venus and freshman Neal Skupski took an 8-5 victory from Ole Miss seniors Jonas Berg and Bram ten Berge to even the doubles matches.
But Ole Miss junior Kalle Norberg and freshman Otto Sauer secured the point with an 8-5 victory against LSU freshman Mark Bowtell and senior James Cluskey.
LSU tied the score at one when Carlsson took down Sauer, 6-3, 6-1. Venus scored the Tigers’ second point for a 2-1 lead, beating Berg, 6-1, 7-6.
The Rebels tied it shortly thereafter with a 6-3, 6-3 victory by Ole Miss freshman Marcell Thiemann against Bowtell.
Ole Miss took the lead when freshman Chris Thiemann beat LSU sophomore Cody Loup, 6-4, 6-2.
Cluskey dropped a three-set decision to Britton, 6-4, 1-6, 3-6, clinching the match for the Rebels.
LADY TIGERS MOVE ON
The LSU women’s tennis team beat Long Beach State, 4-0, in the first round of the NCAA tournament Saturday in Palo Alto, Calif.
LSU (14-10) will play the winner of the Stanford-Wichita State matchup Sunday at 3 p.m.
