The LSU men’s tennis team lost its final competitors in the NCAA championships Thursday as senior Michael Venus was eliminated from singles play and the team of Venus and freshman Neal Skupski was eliminated from the doubles competition. The LSU women’s doubles team of seniors Megan Falcon and Mykala Hedberg also lost Thursday to SMU’s Marta Lesniak and Aleksandra Malyarschikova.Falcon stayed alive until Friday with a win against South Carolina’s Gira Schofield, but could not advance any further.Falcon, who ran her record against Schofield to 4-0 all-time and 2-0 this season, fell to Miami’s Laura Vallverdu in the Round of 16 on Friday, completely eliminating all LSU representatives from the tournament.”It was a very tough way to end a tremendous career. Megan controlled the match and was playing good tennis, and Vallverdu stepped her game up while Meg got tight,” LSU women’s tennis coach Tony Minnis said in a news release. “It was a tough way for Megan to go out, but it does not diminish what she has done as an LSU Lady Tiger. She has been great since she got here, and we are going to miss her.”The women’s and men’s tennis teams finished No. 24 and No. 28 in the final ITA College Tennis Rankings, respectively.—-Contact The Daily Reveille sports staff at [email protected]
