The LSU softball team beat Northern Iowa, 3-2, in eight innings Friday night in the Easton Purple and Gold Challenge in Tiger Park.
The win was the Tigers’ fifth extra-inning affair this season and their fourth in their last at-bat.
Freshman second baseman Ashley Langoni hit a walk-off single in the eighth inning for the victory. She finished 2-for-3 with two RBI.
LSU trailed 2-0 after the first three full innings. The Tigers picked up a run in the fourth and fifth inning before Langoni’s walk off in the eighth.
LSU junior pitcher Cody Trahan tossed 95 pitches in the circle, going for 6.1 innings with five strikeouts.
“Cody settled down after the first inning,” said LSU coach Yvette Girouard in a news release. “We have a little way to go with her, but we saw some good things out of her tonight. Every time she steps in the circle, we try to push her a little bit further than the time before.”
Freshman Brittany Mack took the victory, pitching 1.2 scoreless innings of relief with two strikeouts.
LSU plays Texas State at 2 p.m. and Alabama-Birmingham at 4:15 p.m. tomorrow in the Purple and Gold Challenge.
