LSU will play West Virginia in football in 2010 and 2011, the LSU Athletic Department announced Thursday. The series will be a home-and-home. West Virginia will visit Tiger Stadium after Southeastern Conference play has started. WVU comes to Baton Rouge on Sept. 24, 2010. LSU travels to West Virginia on Sept. 25, 2011. It will be the first time the two teams will meet in football. “We’ve been working on this deal for about a year and a half now – pushing the dates around and rearranging things,” said Verge Ausberry, LSU senior associate athletic director. Ausberry said West Virginia was scheduled to fill a vacancy left by Colorado, which was originally slated to play LSU in 2011 and 2012 “We play [West Virginia] here in 2010 and there in 2011, and we had to have the home game in 2010 because our future games are set, and we had to have seven games,” Ausberry said. Reports about a possible matchup between the schools originally surfaced in October.
