Governor Bobby Jindal has declared a state of emergency in preparation for Hurricane Ida.
By Gov. Jindal making this declaration, he has the powers to deal with emergencies and disasters. Jindal can ensure preparations of Louisiana will be adequate and to preserve the lives and property of the people of Louisiana.
In a public advisory released by the National Hurricane Center at 3:00 p.m. CST, the category two storm is moving into the southern part of the Gulf of Mexico.
The gulf coast, spanning from Grand Isle, La. to Mexico Beach, Fla., is currently under a hurricane watch. A watch means that the area is in danger of a storm within 36 hours. The watch does not include New Orleans.
The hurricane is expected to cross the gulf Sunday night and Monday and be near land on Tuesday.
