Led by Running Back Charles Scott, the LSU offense piled up 456 yards of offense as they easily put away the Tulane Green Wave, 42-0.
The running game had a confidence-boosting 268 yards, led by Scott’s 112 yards and two touchdowns on only 18 carries. Freshman Russell Shepard also chimed in with 48 yards of his own on five carries and a touchdown, and Stevan Ridley carried the ball eight times for 73 yards and touchdown to put the Tigers on top.
Although there were no stellar numbers by the sophomore quarterback Jordan Jefferson, he did all that was needed to lead his Tigers to an easy victory. Completing 11 of 17 passes for 163 yards and two touchdowns, the Destrehan native showed he is ready to lead this team.
On the receiving end, Brandon LaFell moved into sole possession of second place in LSU career touchdown catches with 22. He is four shy of the record of 26, set by Dwayne Bowe. With two touchdown catches to accent his 85 yards, LaFell showed he is still the number one man lining up for Jefferson in the wings.
Tulane was led by wide receiver Jeremy Williams, who caught eigth passes for 78 yards on the night. Quarterback Ryan Griffin just couldn’t get anything going, although completing 21 of his 29 passes.
Tulane knew what was awaiting them before they boarded the buses in New Orleans on Friday. The Tigers beat them in every facet of the game. The Tiger’s size, speed and strength was clearly greater than the Green Wave’s.
Now the Tigers must focus on next weekend, and the highly-anticipated matchup with Nick Saban and his number two ranked Tide. Alabama was off this week, which doesn’t bode well for the Tigers.
However, LSU is a team that will shock their fans when they least expect it. Alabama has been on somewhat of a downward spiral over the recent weeks, and meeting up with an LSU team coming off of two impressive wins is cause for fans to raise an eyebrow.
