University libraries are receiving a $31,000 donation to support an exhibit on the history of birds in neotropical ecological zones, according to a University press release
The donation came from the Coypu Foundation which was founded by John Mcllhenny. Mcllhenny was a supporter of the University’s efforts in neotropical ornithology and is a relative of the founder of the Mcllhenny Company which is the maker of Tabasco sauce, according to the release.
The exhibition will be created with resources from University libraries and LSU Museum of Natural History, according to the release.
The exhibit – curated by ornithological book expert W. Thomas Taylor of Austin, Tx. — will document the development of neotropical ornithology from the first European explores to present day work in the area, according to the release.
Neotropical zones include Mexican lowlands, Caribbean islands, South America and Central America, according to the release.
The physical exhibition will begin in summer 2011. A digital version of the exhibition will also be available. A catalog of the exhibition will also be distributed to libraries in the United States and Latin America that have ornithological exhibitions, according to the release.
