LSU senior guard Allison Hightower scored her 1,001th career point Sunday night as the No. 7 Lady Tigers (4-0) knocked off Nicholls State (0-3), 86-49, at the PMAC.Hightower’s two free throws with 15:15 to play in the game vaulted her past the 1,000-point plateau in her career.”It’s something special,” Hightower said. “To tell you the truth, I didn’t even know about it. It was very exciting when I found out.”Hightower became the 28th Lady Tiger to eclipse the 1,000-point mark.”I’m really pleased that Allison Hightower scored 1,000 points,” said LSU coach Van Chancellor. “I couldn’t think of a more deserving player.”LSU is 4-0 for the first time since 2006. The Lady Tigers have won their first four games by a combined score of 311-162.”Our team is doing a nice job of taking care of business,” Chancellor said.Chancellor continues to be impressed with the LSU reserves, who had 50 points on the night.Freshman guards Bianca Lutley and Adrienne Webb scored 12 points each off the LSU bench.”Our two freshmen played extremely well tonight,” Chancellor said. “Adrienne Webb just really amazes me.”Sophomore forward Swayze Black had a career-high 10 points.”It feels good to know that I can score for the team and help the team,” Black said.The Lady Tigers started off strong from the opening tip-off and finished shooting a season-high 55 percent from the floor.LSU had a commanding 15-0 lead five minutes into the game. The Colonels got on the board with a layup from Nicholls State freshman forward Alisha Allen with14:43 left in the half.”The kids played hard, but what we’ll use from this is being able to see what we need to work on,” said Nicholls State coach DoBee Plaisance. “The things we did do well at times we can look at and say, ‘Look, you did this well against LSU.'”DoBee Plaisance is the mother of one of Chancellor’s 2010 signees, Vandebilt Catholic forward Theresa Plaisance.”I’m grateful for the opportunity for my daughter to learn from Van [Chancellor],” DoBee Plaisance said.The Lady Colonels were the second team to fall to the Lady Tigers this weekend.LSU defeated Houston, 72-54, Saturday afternoon thanks to the emergence of Webb.”She shot the eyes out of it,” Chancellor said. “I just wanted her to touch the ball every time.
