Although construction at the Union Theater is steadily moving forward, the curtain rise for the venue won’t happen for at least a few months.
The construction experienced minor setbacks from hurricanes but is currently on schedule.
The state of the structure shows that a space between the union building and the theater has been closed off.
The inside has not seen seating, lighting, dressing rooms and other interior parts fully take shape.
Acoustics will be improved and theater-goers will have enhanced seating and better entrance access.
Events that normally take place in the theater have temporarily moved elsewhere.
Manager Michael Derr says people can expect something different after the opening.
“It’s gonna be a different experience. If they’ve used it before or even if they haven’t, they need to come take a look,” said Derr. “I encourage all students. I think every student should come and hear listen to the concerts as often as they can. We have a variety of excellent musicians.”
Derr says he expects the theater to open for business be the fall of 2010.
