The Tulane Green Wave looked like a puddle Saturday night against LSU.No letdown happend for LSU with No. 2 Alabama looming on the schedule next weekend as the No. 9 Tigers (7-1, 4-1 SEC) took care of business against Tulane (2-6, 0-4 Conference USA) in a 42-0 thrashing.LSU senior defensive back Daniel Graff blocked a punt on Tulane’s first drive, marking the Tigers’ first blocked punt since LaRon Landry did it at Florida in 2006. True freshman Russell Shepard picked up where he left off after his first touchdown of the year on a 69-yard rush against Auburn with a 19-yard rushing touchdown to give the Tigers an early 7-0 lead. Senior wide receiver Brandon LaFell was wide open on a blown coverage, and sophomore quarterback Jordan Jefferson found him on a 39-yard touchdown pass to extend the Tigers’ lead to 14-0.The Green Wave missed two opportunities for points before the half on a missed 43-yard kick and an interception by sophomore cornerback Patrick Peterson at LSU’s 5-yard line.LSU continued to create turnovers this season as it marked the 10th straight game the Tigers forced an interception.Senior tight end Richard Dickson was shaken up on a four-yard touchdown run by senior running back Charles Scott in the second quarter but returned to the field. Scott continued to pound it up the middle against a helpless Green Wave defense for his second score of the game on an eight-yard rush in the third quarter.
The Saline native finished the game with 112 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Scott has seven touchdowns and more than 350 yards rushing in his career against Tulane. Scott rushed for more than 100 yards for the first time in a game this season. The last time he went over the century mark was against Tulane last season.LaFell found the end zone again on a 13-yard pass from Jefferson. Sophomore running back Stevan Ridley finished off the scoring with a 10-yard rushing touchdown, increasing LSU’s insurmountable lead to 42-0.LaFell moved into sole possession of second place on the all-time LSU receiving touchdown list with 22. He is four shy of former Tiger wide receiver Dwayne Bowe.Tulane running back Andre Anderson was averaging more than 90 rushing yards a game but only mustered 29 in the loss. Tulane had an abysmal 26 rushing yards on the night.The victory moves LSU coach Les Miles past former coach Nick Saban for sole possession of third place on the all-time wins list at LSU with 49.
