Popsicles, t-shirts and pens were just some of the favors available at the University’s fifteenth annual Fall Fest celebration.
Festivities included a stage featuring various dance groups, the UREC’s treadmill walk for breast cancer and a crowd favorite, Student Media’s dunking booth.
“My favorite part is dunking my best friend at the media booths,” said Jessica Mayeux, a mass communications senior.
Kelly Wisner, Raisin’ Cane’s marketing field representative for the University, said Fall Fest was about school spirit and community involvement.
“Coming out here is a staple for the company and we’re glad to support the community and be involved in any way we can,” she said.
Mayeux said she’s glad businesses set up booths and partake in University tradition.
“All the booths are passing out purple and gold,” she said. “It’s great for tiger spirit.”
Nancy Little, marketing strategist for the University, said University Relations planned for a ‘green’ Fall Fest.
‘We’re going green to be more sustainable and make people aware of the amount of trash we’re producing,” she said. “We want to make a better LSU.”
UREC’s booth had a Woodway treadmill in addition to the pink breast cancer treadmill.
The Woodway treadmill is not motorized. Instead, it uses human power, said Scott Belanger, the marketing and public relations coordinator for UREC.
UREC brought the green treadmill out as an “initiative to partner with different companies to bring the best equipment to LSU for students,” Belanger said.
If students like the treadmill, Belanger said the UREC would purchase the product.
Also, as part of a national campaign the UREC donated 10 cents to breast cancer research for every mile walked on the pink treadmill, he said.
Belanger said UREC celebrates Fall Fest to raise awareness about the importance of fitness.
“The UREC plays a large role in some of the lives on campus,” he said.
Little said the event comes free for students.
“It’s paid for by private dollars and additional funds,” she said. “We don’t use student’s money.”
University Relations along with the Fall Fest Committee have been planning the event since January, Little said.
