NEW ORLEANS (AP) — President Barack Obama will visit New Orleans next week, the state’s senators have confirmed.
Sen. David Vitter’s office Friday released a copy of a letter to the president thanking him for the planned Oct. 15 visit, but expressing concern that it will be too brief. Vitter said his understanding is that a town hall meeting will be the only major event.
Sen. Mary Landrieu’s office stressed that details of the planned visit were still being worked out. However, Landrieu also released a statement expressing concetn that the visit will be too brief.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Both senators say the president should include visits to sites that will reflect the state’s needs, including flood prevention and coastal protection.
