The Utah Jazz released former LSU forward Ronald Dupree today to trim their roster to 14 prior to the start of the NBA season next week.Dupree was signed by the Jazz in September after spending last season with the NBDL’s Utah Flash and Tulsa 66ers, averaging 16.2 points per game and 21.0 points per game in the postseason. The former LSU standout has averaged 3.6 points per game and two rebounds per game during his six-season career with the Seattle Supersonics, Detroit Pistons, Minnesota Timberwolves and Chicago Bulls.Dupree was expected to be a possible replacement for forward Matt Harpring, who is still mulling retirement. Harpring has played the past seven seasons in Utah, but chronic knee problems forced the 11-year veteran to play just 63 games last season. The Houston Rockets also released former LSU guard Garrett Temple on Wednesday. Temple played in four preseason games with the Rockets and averaged 2.5 points per game. The former LSU starter spent his summer on the Rockets’ summer league team and may be asked to join the Rockets’ NBDL team, the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, for the upcoming season.”We’re very, very high on Garrett,” Gersson Rosas, Rockets vice president of player personnel and Vipers general manager, told the Houston Chronicle. “We really believe in his upside and that he will continue his development with our involvement.”MCKINNEY COMMITS TO LADY TIGERSLSU has picked up another major commitment for its women’s basketball program from post player Shanece McKinney of Mobile, Ala.The 6-foot-4 McKinney made her decision after visiting Baton Rouge the weekend of the Florida-LSU football game.Florida and LSU were the two finalists for McKinney, who helped lead LeFlore High School to a Class 5A state title in the spring. As a junior, McKinney averaged 18 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots per game for a LeFlore team that finished 25-2.McKinney joins Vandebilt Catholic center Theresa Plaisance and St. Michael’s guard Jeanne Kenney as the third commitment in LSU women’s coach Van Chancellor’s 2010 recruiting class.LSU, CAPITAL AREA UNITED WAY TEAM UP FOR MOBILE CAMPAIGNThe LSU Athletic Department and Capital Area United Way are teaming up for a unique fundraising event this weekend in Tiger Stadium. The two organizations are encouraging fans to text LSU to UNITED (864833) during the first timeout of the game.
