LSU junior tennis players Sebastian Carlsson, Julien Gauthier and Cody Loup all won their singles matches Thursday at the Wilson/ITA Southern Regional in New Orleans.
Carlsson knocked off Louisana-Lafayette’s Yanick Mandi, 6-2, 6-3, in the Round of 64 and cruised by New Orleans’ Benjamin Bouhana, 6-4, 6-2, in the Round of 32.
Gauthier clawed his way through a three-set win against Troy’s Aurelien Tave, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 (5) in the Round of 64 to advance to the Round of 32 on Friday.
Loup has a tougher road compared to Carlsson and Gauthier, needing a total of seven wins to capture the title.
He knocked off Samford’s Carl Abalos, 6-3, 6-4, in the Round of 128 and later went on to defeat Tulane’s Joe Young in a three-set thriller, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
Carlsson will play Auburn’s Saketh Myeneni in the Round of 16 on Friday, while Gauthier will go up against Mississippi State’s Chris Doerr and Loup will take on Auburn’s Alex Stamchev in the Round of 32.
