The LSU soccer team got some good news and some bad news on Friday.
The bad news was that Florida clinched the regular season Southeastern Conference title against South Carolina.
But the good news was that it was not because of LSU faltering, as the Tigers pounded Arkansas 4-1 in a win that gave LSU the SEC Western Division Championship for the third-straight season.
“We’re certainly very excited to win the SEC West for a third year in a row. We’re also very pleased that we are playing this well this late in the season,” said LSU head coach Brian Lee. “That is big for us as we head into postseason play. I am very pleased with the effort and intensity we showed tonight. You want to be peaking at this time of year, and I feel like we beginning to do that.”
The Razorbacks got on the board early and took a 1-0 12 minutes into the match, but LSU fired back with three goals in the remainder of the half to put the game away.
Sophomore Taryne Boudreau and seniors Malorie Rutledge and Amanda Carreno scored in the attack.
Sophomore Kellie Murphy fired in LSU’s fourth goal of the match in the second half to put LSU ahead by three goals to end the scoring for the night.
LSU will be the No. 2 seed in next week’s SEC Tournament and will take on No. 7 seed Vanderbilt in their opening round match.
