Excessive rains in December have worked to delay the harvest of both sweet potatoes and cotton, according to news releases from the LSU AgCenter.
The harvest of sweet potatoes statewide is about 35 percent complete compared with a normal completion rate of 50 percent in October, Tara Smith, AgCenter sweet potato specialist, said in the release.
Meanwhile, rains have prevented cotton farmers from harvesting cotton — something that will reduce the yield and quality of the crop, Don Boquet, LSU AgCenter cotton specialist, said in the release.
