A Real Talk session exploring homophobia in the black community will take place Thursday at 7 p.m. in the African American Cultural Center.
“It’s taboo in a sense to talk about different gay and lesbian issues within the black community,” said Niya Blaire, coordinator of the America Cultural Center. “It’s particularly more difficult to talk about black gay males.”
The event intends to promote tolerance and an open mind among students.
“I hope people walk away with a basic understanding and be open minded about different people’s lifestyles and choices and also the genuine rights every person has regardless of how you may feel,” Blaire said.
The event will include discussion, movie clips and information about the LGBTQ organization on campus. The organization promotes safety and acceptance among the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer individuals.
