ATLANTA (AP) — Former President Jimmy Carter says President Barack Obama deserves his Nobel Peace Prize, based on his achievements and the promise of an aggressive agenda that he’s still working to fulfill.
Carter, who was awarded the prize in 2002, told the Associated Press on Thursday that Obama “deserves it as much as anyone who’s ever gotten it for his achievement already.”
He says Obama “transformed the image of America around the world” and won the award because of his work banning torture, working to rid the world of nuclear weapons and pursuing Mideast peace.
But he says Obama’s award also reflects the aggressive agenda which he still has three years to fulfill. Carter says that agenda can be embraced by other nations around the world.
