This fall the scariest place in the country is right here in Baton Rouge. It’s not Tiger Stadium but the 13th Gate haunted house in down town Baton Rouge.
Patrons walk through 13 different areas both inside and outside. The elaborate sets and realistic makeup put you right in the middle of a horror movie.
Some of the costumes are familiar movie characters such as Jack Sparrow and Michael Meyers. Assistant stage manager Jennifer Michelli said the costumes are what make the show.
“Between everything we have probably close to 300 pieces that we can put in, but we only use probably 150,” said Michelli.
Haunt World magazine named the 13th Gate the number one haunted house in the nation for the second year in a row, smashing its number 10 Louisiana counterpart the House of Shock in New Orleans.
The 40, 000 square foot haunted house employs over 100 professional actors and a whole team of special effects technicians, makeup artists, and set designers.
“My favorite part about working at the 13th Gate would have to be working with all the wonderful people here on top of hearing everybody scream,” said actor, Hannah Underwood.
The 13th Gate opened September 24th and closes Friday, November 13th. Admission for the 13th gate is twenty dollars a head.
