BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — East Baton Rouge Parish officials say they expect to earn up to $33 million during the next 20 years with a new methane collection project at the North Baton Rouge Landfill.
Construction is set to begin in November, according to a story in The Advocate of Baton Rouge.
The pipeline will deliver the methane gas produced by the landfill to an ExxonMobil Baton Rouge plant and to a Novolyte Technologies chemical plant.
The methane gas will be used as a substitute for natural gas in the boilers at both plants. Methane gas is a byproduct of decomposition at landfills. Environmental officials say it can be harnessed as an energy source.
