Members of student government and academic affairs are approving and revising a new “W” or withdrawal policy for LSU students.
The current policy took effect in august of 2006 and student government says a new policy needs to be implemented.
The office of the university registrar says the current policy offers three W’S within a student’s first 29 hours, and one w for each following tier.
The new policy will give students more flexibility and allow students to receive three W’s during their first two years and two W’s in their last two years.
One W will be allotted for each extra year.
“[The new policy] lets students that aren’t sure whether a course fits their schedule or their interests or their career goals-it lets them reconsider that and so it is a good thing to have,” said Jonathan Hunterwalker, Student Government director of academics. “But we felt that the original policy wasn’t suited to students in some ways. Basically it babied them through the process by making the hour requirements too specific.”
Student Government expects the new policy will be in full effect by 2010 as they say it will greatly improve things for students.
