The LSU baseball team’s incoming recruiting class has been ranked No. 3 in the nation by Collegiate Baseball, the LSU Athletic Department announced today in a news release.
The class includes five players who were selected in the 2009 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. There are six pitchers and seven position players in the class.
“We have a great deal of confidence that we can have an outstanding team this season,” LSU coach Paul Mainieri said in a news release. “We lost some key performers from the national championship club, but we have a strong returning core of players to join this very talented group of new players. We’re very excited about the process of molding this team for the 2010 season.”
Florida is No. 1 in the rankings. Arizona State is No. 2, while Central Florida is No. 4 and Cal State Fullerton is No. 5.
LSU begins fall practice Oct. 13 and will finish Nov. 20.
