MIAMI (AP) — Tropical Storm Fred is continuing to strengthen in the eastern Atlantic, while Tropical Storm Linda is moving slowly far out over the Pacific.
Fred’s maximum sustained winds increased to near 65 mph (100 kph) Tuesday morning. The National Hurricane Center in Miami says Fred is expected to strengthen and could become a hurricane by Wednesday.
Fred is centered about 345 miles (555 kilometers) southwest of the southernmost Cape Verde Islands and moving west near 14 mph (22 kph).
In the Pacific, Linda’s maximum sustained winds remain near 60 mph (95 kph). The storm is centered about 1,320 miles (2,120 kilometers) west-southwest of the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja California peninsula. It is moving west near 2 mph (4 kph).
