New Orleans Saints tight end Billy Miller is out for the season due to tearing his right Achilles tendon.
Miller sustained the injury on Thursday in the second quarter of the Saints preseason lost to the Miami Dolphins. When carted off, Miller’s injury was believed to be severe but was confirmed after the MRI was revealed . He was distraught but has great hope because of his previous track record with injuries.
“What I do know is I’m a fast healer,” Miller said. “I don’t know where that leaves me. I’m still pretty kind of shocked about the situation.”
Saints General Manager Mickey Loomis is now considering adding another tight end to the depth charts after NFL teams are regulated to make their final cut to 53 players on Saturday. The Saints currently have three tight ends on their roster which includes Jeremy Shockey, Buck Ortega and Martrez Milner.
Miller last year had an upgraded roll for the Saints, as he replaced the starter Shockey while he was hurt for the majority of the season. It was also his second best year as a pro, as he received 45 catches for 579 yards and a touchdown.
