LSU soccer coach Brian Lee said prior to Friday’s match against Oklahoma that he wanted his team to improve the way they played in the first halves of games.
Lee got the fast start he wanted Friday night, as LSU (3-1-1) struck for two first half goals in a 4-0 bludgeoning of Oklahoma (4-1-2).
“It was a good game overall. We’ve still got room to improve, especially in the final third, if you’re being clinical about things. But it was a good night,” Lee said.
Senior forward Rachel Yepez struck just six minutes into the contest, with senior midfielder Melissa Clarke picking up goals before and after halftime on a penalty kick and a breakaway.
Freshman midfielder Natalie Ieyoub added to the final margin just six minutes from the game’s end off an assist-pass from Clarke.
The game is Clarke’s second offensive explosion in a row, as she notched two goals and an assist just five days after scoring two late goals against South Florida.
Her current tally of five goals is just one shy of her total from 2008.
“It just keeps getting better and better. I couldn’t ask for any more really,” Clarke said.
