ANGOLA, La. (AP) — A Louisiana State Penitentiary chase team is following a trail in the Tunica Hills Thursday for an inmate believed to have escaped from his assigned job of picking up litter on the grounds of the maximum-security prison.
Chief Deputy Randy Metz says the security officers and bloodhound handlers are looking for 45-year-old Henry Smith, who is serving a life sentence for second-degree murder in Jefferson Parish.
Metz says Smith is described as a white man, 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing about 195 pounds.
Department of Public Safety and Corrections spokeswoman Pam Laborde says Smith had been assigned to pick up litter inside the prison’s boundaries when he fled.
