The Pentagon dining hall will be open for the spring semester after being delayed for six months.
The dining hall was supposed to open in the fall, but structural problems in the 30-year-old building pushed the opening date back.
“It’s an older building,” Director of University Auxiliary Services Jason Tolliver said. “There were structural issues that had to be fixed before we could move forward.”
“This is a total renovation,” Jacque Landry, Quality Control Manager for University Auxiliary Services, said. “We took out everything top to bottom.”
The building will be renamed The Five and will feature an outdoor patio called Take Five, a barista bar, a Quiznos and a convenience store. It will have more options for fresh items and will be more green.
“This is more of a sustainable project and the new parts are made of sustainable materials,” Tolliver said.
Right now Pentagon students are finding other dining options until The Five opens.
“We always hike over to 459 when we want to eat,” music education junior and Broussard R.A. Jacob Banks said.
“It’s pretty inconvenient,” graphic design freshman Kara Petre said. “But I don’t mind. When it opens it’ll be better.”
Despite the inconvenience now, The Five will have more options for students.
“We have the ability to give more options than in the past,” Tolliver said. “Students should have those options in a new place.”
