Silent films are making a comeback this month with Baton Rouge Gallery Center for Contemporary Art’s popular Movies and Music on the Lawn.
Movies and Music on the Lawn is a live music event that is part of the “Familiar Faces” program. The event features classic silent films with music played by local artists. The movies will be played at BREC’s Baton Rouge Gallery.
The first film shown will be the classic 1918 film “Tarzan of the Apes” on Saturday. The film will feature music by local band The (New) Zeelanders. The music will be both rehearsed and improvised to enhance viewing experience.
A new movie will be featured every Saturday, ending with “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde” on Oct. 31.
“Tarzan of the Apes” will be played Saturday at 8 p.m. Admission is free for gallery members and $5 for non-members.
