Results from standardized tests given to students in Louisiana schools this past spring and summer showed a 4 percent increase in the number of students achieving a score of “basic” or higher from 2008 to 2009.State education officials define students who perform at the basic level as having “the fundamental knowledge and skills needed for the next level of schooling,”The results also show that the percentage of fourth- and eighth-graders earning promotion after spring and summer testing grew slightly from 2008 to 2009 — from 81.1 percent to 81.4 percent. Students in those grades must take math and science tests and achieve a “basic” level in one and “approaching basic” in another to earn promotion.—-Contact The Daily Reveille news staff at [email protected]
