The Office of Multicultural Affairs announced Thursday that A.P. Tureaud Jr., the first African-American student to attend LSU, will speak at the Harambee celebration on October 9.
Harambee, which means “a coming together” in Swahili, is an annual celebration of African-American student life and achievements at the University.
The event begins at 6 p.m. with the Community Resource Fair, an opportunity for students to sign up to volunteer with organizations like Big Buddy and The Boys and Girls Club.
A.P. Tureaud Jr. will speak at 7 p.m. He is the son of A.P. Tureaud Sr., a civil rights leader and attorney for whom the A.P. Tureaud Hall is named.
