The LSU football team leads Vanderbilt, 13-7, at halftime in Tiger Stadium.
The game continued despite consistent rainfall that started at the end of the first quarter and continued through the second quarter.
LSU went up, 13-7, right before halftime on a field goal by junior kicker Josh Jasper. Sophomore quarterback Jordan Jefferson threw a long pass to senior wide receiver Brandon LaFell, who ran to the five-yard line to set up the kick.
Vanderbilt scored its first touchdown of the game on a six-yard run by sophomore quarterback Larry Smith. The touchdown and extra point cut the Commodores’ deficit to 10-7.
Smith finished the half with 57 yards on 7-of-15 passing. The Commodores finished with 129 total yards in the half.
LSU senior running back Keiland Williams picked up the Tigers’ first score of the game, running six yards for a touchdown with 2:12 left in the first quarter. Williams had 41 yards in the first half on six carries.
Jasper put LSU up, 10-0, with 10:22 left in the second quarter on a 32-yard field goal.
Freshman Russell Shepard made his first appearance of the season for LSU, playing at both quarterback and wide receiver. He had 19 yards on two rushing attempts in the first half.
Freshman wide receiver Rueben Randle also played in the first half but did not have any catches.
OTHER TIGER TEAMS HONORED
The LSU men’s basketball team was honored in the middle of the first quarter for its regular-season Southeastern Conference championship last season. Former Tiger Shaquille O’Neal also joined the team as part of the honor.
The LSU baseball team was honored at the end of the first quarter for its College World Series championship in June.
