Over 250 LSU students traveled to Starkville, Mississippi, to watch the tigers defeat the bulldogs 30 to 26.
Student Government puts on this annual bus trip. Melissa Hart, Student Government executive director of athletics, says it can be difficult to see a game outside of tiger stadium.
“The purpose of the student government bus trip is to give students an easy way to attend an away game,” said Hart.
The bus trip cost 75 dollars. It included a ticket, a gold t-shirt, transportation, and a goodie bag donated by the sponsors.
Students left LSU campus at 3:30 a.m. and arrived in Starkville about six hours later.
Breakfast was provided by LSU Dining, and lunch by the Alumni Association.
Hart says this away game was ideal for the bus trip. “This year we picked Mississippi state because we wanted to be economically friendly, have a cheaper route, a cheaper way to get there. We knew it was going to be very expensive to go to any other location.”
Past bus trips have been to Alabama, Tennessee and South Carolina.
While each student has different reason for hitting the road, graduate student Gregory Vick says he was influenced by fellow tiger fans.
“My friends said it was awesome so I decided to do it to see what its all about,” said Vick.
Students signed up in August through the online ticket office. The package deal sold out in sixty hours.
Many students have suggested bus trips for other sports such as baseball. Student Government is listening to the ideas, but nothing is being planned as of now.
