Experts at the LSU AgCenter say an invasive species of ant first discovered in Southeast Texas are threatening to invade adjacent Louisiana.Rasberry crazy ants, first discovered by pest management professional Tom Raspberry, form super colonies which have the potential to displace native ants, according to LSU AgCenter entomologist Linda Hooper-Bui.Hooper-Bui said the ants move in “crazy” patterns, unlike most domestic ants. Though they don’t bite, their colonies can become overwhelmingly large. She said the ants have been known to upset wildlife and even infiltrate electrical boxes and disrupt power supplies.Hooper-Bui said the ants could already be spreading into Louisiana without anyone’s knowledge.
