The LSU volleyball team was unable to extend its winning streak to three matches Friday night, as they fell 3-1 to the Tulane Green Wave in the first game of the Allstate Sugar Bowl Classic.
The Tigers (4-3) dropped the first two sets of the match before winning the third set to extend the match. But Tulane (3-2), put the match away with a fourth-set victory.
The Green Wave was led by Visna Djurdjevic and Ksenija Vlaskovic, who combined for 35 of Tulane’s 52 kills.
“The key to the match tonight was we weren’t able to make the big play when we needed one,” said LSU volleyball coach Fran Flory in a news release. “We would answer, but didn’t have a response for Tulane’s answer. It’s too bad we had to lose to gain something because this match long-term will be a positive for us.”
LSU had three players with double digit kills in the match. Marina Skender led the Tigers with 16 kills, Brittnee Cooper had 12 and Michele Williams recorded 10.
The Tigers will play two matches tomorrow against Long Beach State and the University of New Orleans.
