New Orleans Saints defensive back Usama Young was arrested on Monday in Harahan for traffic violations.
Young was originally pulled over for speeding and flight from an officer using a motor vehicle, but was then arrested for an outstanding violation in Jefferson Parish. According to the Associated Press, the violation came last year when the safety was parked illegally in front an AT&T store.
Young was released soon after on $7,500 bond. Also, an apology was immediately issued by the Kent State alumni, reports NOLA.com.
“I am sincerely sorry,” Young told NOLA.com. “I will never park in those spots again. I know there is no excuse for my actions, but I promise it will never happen again.”
The traffic stop occurred around three in the morning at the intersection of Jefferson Highway and Colonial Club Drive.
Harahan police clocked Young going 55 mph in a 40 mph zone and drove about a half-mile before pulling over, according to Harahan Police Chief Peter Dale.
The Saints have had knowledge of the situation and back their young safety 100 percent in his circumstance.
“”We are aware of the situation involving Usama, and we are working with him, our legal counsel and we are supporting Usama in this matter,” Saints spokesman Greg Bensel said.
