NEW ORLEANS (AP) — New Orleans Saints Owner Tom Benson has closed a deal to buy a vacant office tower near the Superdome.
Benson announced the purchase on Tuesday, saying the Dominion Tower has been officially renamed the Benson Tower.
The legislature agreed to lease part of the building from Benson for 15 years for more than $100 million. The deal is part of a deal cut by the administration of Gov. Bobby Jindal to keep the Saints in Louisiana through 2025.
The tower has been largely empty since Hurricane Katrina struck in 2005. Benson’s deal also gives him control of an adjacent shopping center where plans call for outdoor entertainment areas for sports fans.
