BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana’s non-farm work force fell by 9,500 jobs from July 2008 to July 2009.
In a report issued Wednesday, the Louisiana Workforce Commission said the job ranks also dropped by 17,200 jobs from June. But state officials say that decrease — on a non-seasonally adjusted basis — followed regular patterns during which teachers and support workers go off payrolls.
On a seasonally adjusted basis, Louisiana’s unemployment rate jumped to 7.4 percent in July from 6.8 percent in June. The national rate for July was 9.4 percent.
